"Do not store after opening." Does this phrase on a milk carton mean it should be drunk immediately?
Belarusians were surprised and outraged by the inscription on a milk bottle from the Mogilev enterprise "Babulina Krynka": "Do not store after opening the package," which one user wrote about in Threads. The publication sparked a wide discussion: people joked that a liter of milk now had to be consumed in a few minutes, and doubted the quality of the product. Journalists from "Smartpress" checked the information in stores and confirmed – such an inscription indeed exists. But what does it mean?

The "Babulina Krynka" hotline explained that this wording has been used for a long time and no new changes have been made. The meaning is that the expiration date is indicated only for a hermetically sealed package. After it is opened, the manufacturer cannot control the storage conditions and, accordingly, is not responsible for the product's quality.
The company noted that people store milk differently: some in the refrigerator, and some in unsuitable conditions. In addition, after opening the package, bacteria from the air enter the milk, which accelerates its spoilage. Therefore, none of the manufacturers indicate how many days milk can be stored after opening.
Thus, the inscription does not prohibit storing milk after opening, but means that the manufacturer guarantees quality only until the package's seal is broken.
