Lithuanian Prime Minister: The topic of resuming Belarusian fertilizer transit is artificially inflated
The resumption of transit of Belarusian potash fertilizers and possible pressure from the US administration to again allow their transportation through Lithuania is a topic that is artificially inflated, states Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė, writes LRT.

“We are inflating many issues that perhaps should not be inflated at all. One of them is the transit of fertilizers from Belarus,” Ruginienė said on Thursday.
“Never, neither behind the scenes nor in the international arena, has this topic been raised or discussed. During my cooperation and work with the Americans, we discussed many issues, but never, never talked (about fertilizer transit), there was no request from their side,” explained the Prime Minister.
In December last year, she also stated that US officials had not asked to resume the transit of Belarusian fertilizers through Lithuania. After the US lifted sanctions on Belarusian potash fertilizers late last year in exchange for the release of prisoners held in the country, political observers began discussing the likelihood that Washington might start putting pressure on Lithuania to again allow the transit of fertilizers through Klaipėda Port.
