VIDEO shows French military boarding a tanker of Russia's shadow fleet
The footage was provided to journalists by the French Armed Forces, reported LCI TV channel.
The video shows that the vessel Grinch in the Mediterranean Sea is boarded calmly and very professionally. French President Emmanuel Macron stated that everything was done in accordance with the law and international conventions.
The detention took place on January 22 in the Alboran Sea — in the western Mediterranean, near the Strait of Gibraltar. The operation was carried out under Article 110 of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and aimed to verify the true ownership of the vessel, as it was suspected of using a false flag.
The tanker was sailing under the flag of the Comoros, under which it also appeared on marine traffic tracking websites. The tanker regularly delivered oil to ports in China and India. In the British list of Russian shadow fleet tankers, it is known as Grinch, and in the European and American lists — as Carl.
