Near Slutsk, during illegal races, a wife drove a Range Rover into her husband's Subaru. Four people severely injured

Unauthorized street races took place on the evening of July 26, 2025, near the village of Vyaliki Bykaŭ, Slutsk district. During the final race, a 32-year-old local resident driving a Range Rover SUV decided to compete in speed with her husband, who was driving a Subaru Impreza.

After the finish, the cars turned around to return to the starting point. The Subaru driver gradually reduced speed, while the Range Rover continued to move at a speed of at least 100 km/h, exceeding the permitted 90 km/h. According to investigative materials, the woman saw people and cars ahead, but did not stop.

At high speed, the SUV collided with her husband's car, after which it drove onto the right shoulder. There, it hit three pedestrians and then crashed into a parked Volkswagen Golf. The impact threw the passenger car into a ditch. A passenger was inside its cabin.

Among the injured pedestrians was a married couple. Due to a traffic jam, they stopped near the road and walked along the roadside to find out the reason. After confirming that there was no accident ahead, the husband and wife were returning to their car. At the moment of the collision, they were standing with their backs to the approaching SUV.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the Range Rover's braking system had a technical malfunction: the metal pipeline of the rear left wheel was rusted. However, a forensic automotive technical examination showed that even with this malfunction, the driver had the technical ability to stop the car in time and avoid the collision if she had maintained the permitted speed and applied the brake pedal in a timely manner. The Subaru Impreza, according to expert conclusions, was in good working order.

Forensic medical examinations determined the severity of the injuries. An 18-year-old resident of Salihorsk sustained severe bodily injuries. The married couple received less severe injuries, which led to a prolonged health disorder. The injuries of the Volkswagen Golf passenger were recognized as severe due to irreparable facial disfigurement.

The accused herself claimed during the investigation that the brake pedal "failed" at the moment of driving. According to her version, she allegedly intentionally steered the SUV towards her husband's car, trying to stop the out-of-control vehicle.

Upon studying the woman's identity, it was found that at the time of the accident, she had no criminal record, but had previously been repeatedly brought to administrative responsibility for violations of traffic rules.

The actions of the 32-year-old resident of the Slutsk district are qualified under Part 2 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code — violation of traffic rules and vehicle operation by a person driving a vehicle, which by negligence resulted in severe and less severe bodily injury.

The criminal case has been transferred to the prosecutor for referral to court.
