Russia will not participate in the first meeting of the Peace Council

Representatives of Russia will not participate in the first meeting of the Peace Council, announced Maria Zakharova, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry. "Russia will not be represented at the Peace Council meeting," she said at a briefing.
She noted that "work on forming Moscow's position [regarding the Peace Council] continues."
The first meeting of the Peace Council is scheduled for February 19 in Washington.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow is still developing its position regarding the Peace Council and considers "how cautiously many countries in the West and East, including permanent members of the UN Security Council, have reacted to this idea."
Yesterday, Natalia Eismant stated that Alexander Lukashenko had received an invitation to the first meeting of the leaders of the Peace Council, but he would not attend.
— Unfortunately, we received it late; the work schedule for this period had already been planned. Yes, we would gladly visit the United States of America, but there are matters that cannot be postponed, — she stated. — Additionally, we are taking into account possible logistical difficulties that may arise due to illegal sanctions, primarily from the European Union — considering the closure of airspace over the EU.
In this regard, and despite the desire, Lukashenko "will not be able to participate in this event," Eismant said.
«However, I emphasize: we fully share the focus of the U.S. President and the Peace Council on resolving all global conflicts peacefully,» Natalia Eismant added.
The Peace Council summit is scheduled to take place on February 19 in Washington. From Belarus, Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhenkov will fly to Washington.
