"Washington's interest is for this war to end, and we are ready to do everything possible to hasten its end," the US Secretary of State stated.

He said that the United States is the only country in the world capable of bringing both sides to the negotiating table.
"I don't want to offend anyone, but the United Nations has failed to do so. No European state has been able to achieve anything similar either. The United States has been able to ensure direct dialogue between the parties. For the first time in several years, at a technical level, military representatives from both sides met last week in the Middle East. Later this week, talks will resume in Geneva," Marco Rubio added.
In his view, this is a very encouraging sign.
"At the same time, our task is only to play a constructive role if an opportunity arises to reach an agreement. We do not seek to impose terms on anyone, nor are we going to force anyone to accept an agreement against their will. We only want to facilitate the search for a solution," the US Secretary of State concluded.
