A local resident gave birth to a baby girl in an outhouse: the baby fell into the cesspit and showed no signs of life. The Investigative Committee shared details of this high-profile case, writes the newspaper "Vitbichi".
In August 2022, a resident of the village of Khatoli called an ambulance and reported: his cohabitant gave birth to a baby right in the outhouse, and the girl fell into the cesspit. Medics who arrived at the scene were shocked by what they saw: there was a newborn's corpse in the pit.
— During the interrogation, the man said that in the morning his girlfriend woke up and started complaining of abdominal pain. She knew she was pregnant but did not register with a women's clinic.
She found out about her condition when she was working in Russia. There, she had an ultrasound, was given a pregnancy term of 17-18 weeks, and was assured that the fetus was normal, — recalls Anastasia Yaltushenka, senior investigator of the Department for Investigating Crimes Against Persons and Public Safety of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for Vitebsk Region. — Upon returning home, the 39-year-old woman was in no hurry to prepare for the upcoming birth. She regularly engaged in heavy physical labor even in late stages of pregnancy and continuously drank alcohol. During the interrogation, she stated that the born child did not cry, so she calmly went into the house and told her cohabitant what had happened.
The forensic medical examination showed that the girl was alive and died from mechanical asphyxia due to the obstruction of the airways by the contents of the cesspit. Ethyl alcohol was also found in the baby's blood.
This indicates that the woman had consumed alcohol before giving birth. It also emerged that the defendant had repeatedly had abortions and had given up one child in the maternity hospital.
— The forensic psychiatric examination established that at the time of committing the crime, the accused was able to comprehend the factual nature and social danger of her actions. Based on the results of the investigation, the woman was charged under part 1 of Article 144 "Causing death by negligence," — noted Anastasia Yaltushenka.
During the investigation, the woman blamed everything on an accident and the effects of alcohol. The court sentenced her to 2.5 years of imprisonment.
