Sales of the new Lada Iskra have officially started in Belarus. This model occupies an intermediate link between the cheapest Granta and the more expensive Vesta.
Russian car with French roots
The new Lada model is built on the Renault-Nissan CMF-B platform, which AvtoVAZ inherited from its cooperation with Renault. That is, the car is based on the Dacia (Renault) Logan 3.
However, due to the withdrawal of European automakers from Russia in response to the aggression against Ukraine, AvtoVAZ had to postpone the release of the new product. As a result, instead of a model maximally unified with the French Dacia, the Russians reworked and replaced many things with parts of Russian and Chinese production.
It is stated that more than 1000 new components were introduced, and about 400 parts were redesigned.

As a result, the Iskra is produced with two types of 1.6-liter petrol engines — an eight-valve 90 hp and a 16-valve 106 hp. The Russian 5-speed gearbox comes only paired with the base 8-valve engine. The six-speed and automatic (variator) transmissions in this Lada are Chinese.

What about the prices?
The sedan in Life trim is sold at a price starting from 42,900 rubles (about 12,800 euros). Wagons — from 51,400 rubles (about 15,300 euros).
The SW Cross version costs from 56,900, which is about 17 thousand euros.

It is noteworthy that the European counterpart of the 'Iskra', which shares the same platform with it, costs slightly more.
For example, in Lithuania, prices for the Dacia Sandero start from 15,000 euros.

However, the Dacia Sandero's trim level will be slightly better, because due to the severance of ties with Renault, the Lada Iskra lost some technologies aimed at improving safety.
In Belarus, the main competitor of the new AvtoVAZ model is named the Belarusian-Chinese sedan Belgee S50, which, although slightly more expensive than the Iskra, wins on a number of parameters.
