«Attempts to create an image of 'the most humane person' for Lukashenka only emphasize the extreme inhumanity of the system»
Historian Aliaksandr Pashkevich reacted on his Facebook page to the comments of Aliaksandr Lukashenka's press secretary regarding Mikalai Statkevich's stroke.

«To begin with, I want to remind you that the president made the decision to pardon Mikalai Statkevich a long time ago. But then Statkevich refused to go to the 'paradise garden'. And - he returned to prison,» Natalya Eismant said.
It must be understood — he returned without any new trial or verdict and without the cancellation of the pardon. And now, it seems, no new pardon has been issued; rather, the same September one is still in effect. The only difference is that it's now February, not September, and these five months the pardoned person spent not in freedom, but in prison. On what grounds? On the grounds that «sometimes it's not about laws».
Against this background, a second piece of news looks interesting:
«Aliaksandr Lukashenka introduced a mandatory unified qualification exam for those entering public civil service for the first time. The testing involves checking knowledge of the Constitution of Belarus, as well as other basic legislative acts that all public servants must know.»
And here's the question — why do public servants need to know all this (especially the Constitution), if the country still lives not by laws, but by 'concepts' (unwritten rules)?
But at least the 'concepts' are so humane. When Statkevich had a stroke: «The President was informed about this. And the head of state made a decision on his immediate transfer to the hospital, where all necessary and timely assistance was provided — he was saved.»
How lovely, isn't it? So, if a prisoner in jail has a stroke, then transfer to a hospital, necessary and timely assistance are not due to him — for this, someone must first be informed, and that someone must make a decision, whether to save the person or not? And until they receive the highest order, do doctors just sit and wait?
All these verbal attempts to create an image of «the most humane person» only further emphasize the extreme inhumanity of the system he created. And therefore, as in that advertising slogan, even for the benefit of their dark cause, it's better to chew than to speak.
