Lithuanian went to visit relatives in Belarus — he was arrested and given 15 years. They say it's for espionage

Lithuanian citizen Miroslavas Trockis (Miroslav Trotsky) went to Belarus in the autumn of 2024 to visit relatives but did not return home. He was recently sentenced to 15 years in a penal colony.

Miroslavas Trockis is 35 years old. He lived in Vilnius, graduated from Mykolas Romeris University (MRUni) in 2011. Online, he always signed himself as Miroslav Trotsky in Latin or Cyrillic.

It is known from open sources that the Lithuanian had close ties with Belarus. Posts on Facebook indicate that he is either married or engaged to a Belarusian woman and also has relatives there. He has also frequently traveled to Belarus since a young age.

In Telegram, Miroslav was active only in border crossing chats. In May 2024, he was looking for someone to stand in line for him at the border crossing point "Šalčininkai — Bieniakoni". In other social networks, there was also nothing that repressive Belarusian legislation could interpret as prohibited.

In the autumn of 2024, the man once again went to Belarus to visit relatives. He was detained during this trip.

The trial of the Lithuanian took place in the spring of 2026. On March 11, Miroslav was handed down a harsh sentence — 15 years in a penal colony. The Dissidentby initiative states that the circumstances of the case are still being investigated, but it is likely related to "espionage".
