Belarusian Money Changer on Trial in Estonia — €861,000 Processed Through Him in Three Months
The Estonian Prosecutor's Office has referred to court the case of a 47-year-old Belarusian citizen, who is accused of repeated money laundering on an especially large scale as part of a group. In three months, he carried out operations with cash and cryptocurrency totaling over 861 thousand euros, writes err.ee.

According to the indictment, the man was part of a group that operated in Estonia from March to June 2026 and provided money laundering services. Its members converted cash into cryptocurrency and vice versa to conceal the true origin of the funds and the identity of their owner. During the pre-trial investigation, it was discovered that a person convicted of a drug-related crime had used such services.
Encrypted messaging apps and various accounts were used to organize the operations. Participants in the transactions used pseudonyms and did not reveal their names or verify documents when handing over cash. To identify each other, they used a so-called token system: they would previously send a banknote number via a messenger, which would then be used to identify the meeting participant.
According to investigative materials, the accused not only organized the transactions but also participated in their execution. He arranged with clients for the time and place of money transfer or receipt, and also organized operations carried out by other couriers. After confirming the cash transfer, the corresponding amount in cryptocurrency was transferred to the client's crypto wallet, or, conversely, cryptocurrency was received from them.
The man was detained on June 13, 2026. On the same day, the court, at the request of the prosecutor's office, remanded him in custody. On Monday, October 12, the court decided to extend the term of his detention.
