On May 15, 1994, 13-year-old Kristina Marie P. disappeared without a trace. For more than 30 years, hope of finding the little blonde faded: police suspected a crime, and the family lived in uncertainty.
Now, a sensational turn of events has occurred. Investigators, who re-opened the case this week, found a 44-year-old woman strongly resembling the young Kristina Marie. And indeed, it was her: almost 32 years after her disappearance, she was found alive, writes Bild.
On the day of her disappearance, the 13-year-old girl from the small town of Star Valley, Arizona, went to the stable where her horse was. She was wearing a white T-shirt and bright short shorts, as police later noted in the missing person report.
Posters with her face were displayed nationwide. For several weeks, volunteers assisted in the search. Police quickly hypothesized that Kristina had been abducted by an unknown person on the way to the stable, as the girl could not have walked far alone in the rural area. Or perhaps, everything was different?
Apparently, the girl lived with relatives and then left: "I think she didn't like where she lived and the people she was with. She ran away. I was in shock and just thought, 'Oh my God!'" said Police Chief Jamie Garrett on American television.
All these years, Kristina Marie P. lived under a different name — she even started her own family. Today, the adult woman barely remembers her past.
"She said it was a long time ago, it was a past life," the police chief noted.
