Georgian Parliament Adopts Amendments on Introducing a New Visa for "Digital Nomads"

The Parliament of Georgia has adopted amendments in the third reading to the law on the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons, which provide for the introduction of a new C5 category visa for foreign citizens working for non-Georgian companies, Newsgeorgia reports .

C5 is a multiple-entry short-term visa valid for up to five years, granting the right to stay in Georgia for up to 12 months.

Citizens of "safe countries" who enter the country for tourist purposes and work remotely for companies abroad will be eligible for the visa. Family members of the applicant — spouse and children under 18 — will also be able to obtain the visa.

Foreigners working remotely for foreign companies or performing short-term professional tasks within temporary projects will not be subject to labor migration legislation.

The amendments also provide for expedited visa issuance and the introduction of an additional ground for refusing a visa — "state immigration policy". If a foreigner is denied a visa on this ground, the decision is not subject to appeal.
