Industrial fishing in the Polesie State Radioecological Reserve has become one of the experimental directions of activity, reported the director of the reserve, Aleksey Tishkovets.

The head of the reserve notes that this work is quite effective, as the Pripyat is a river abundant in fish:
"We catch up to 30 tons of fish annually. The length of the Pripyat River is about 72 km within the reserve's territory. Currently, while spawning is underway, fishing is on pause, but in May, our team will begin fishing. The fish in the Pripyat is clean. We only fish in the river, we do not enter oxbow lakes and so on," said Aleksey Tishkovets.
Among the fish species found in the Pripyat are catfish, bream, pike, silver carp, and asp. According to the reserve's director, there have been cases where the catch amounted to hundreds of kilograms of catfish overnight.
He particularly remembers an incident with a giant catfish weighing about 50 kg, which was even longer than a person's height and had to be carried by four people.
