American officials have informed some European counterparts that arms shipments under previously concluded contracts will be delayed, as the war with Iran continues to deplete US weapons stocks, Reuters reported, citing five sources familiar with the situation.
According to their data, the delay in supplies will affect, among others, the Baltic and Scandinavian countries. Some of these countries, as reported by sources, border Russia.
Part of the weaponry was purchased by European countries through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program — a US military sales program to other countries — but has not yet been delivered. European officials complain that the delays put them in a difficult position, Reuters reports.
