"Poured paint on monuments, tore out crosses." Teenagers damaged over 50 graves on Radunitsa. Special forces detained them.

An act of vandalism occurred in the Khoiniki district.

A local resident reported an incident at the cemetery to the police — unknown individuals had damaged graves.

Criminal investigation officers identified the vandals. They turned out to be two 16-year-old college students. They were apprehended with the support of fighters from the 'Grom' special forces unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' internal troops.

According to Aliaksandr Padabieda, Deputy Head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate, on Radunitsa, the detainees stole food from grave markers and drank alcohol left in glasses on the graves.

"Then, in a state of intoxication, they began to vandalize the burial sites: pouring paint on monuments, tearing out fences and crosses, smashing decorative elements, and dismantling plaques," he noted. The culprits damaged over 50 graves.

The boys confessed that the idea came to both of them, and they committed the acts of vandalism together.

A criminal case has been initiated for hooliganism. The boys face up to six years of imprisonment.
