"Come on, Brother! See you in heaven. Where else? We've been in hell." Former political prisoner Raman Ramanau dies.
He was 43 years old.
"Roma Ramanau is no more. A worthy man who loved Belarus. He paid dearly for his convictions. Together with him, we went through "Wolf's Lairs". Roma was released last August. He always took everything to heart, and now it couldn't take it anymore. His mother is left alone. No children, no grandchildren. He worried so much about her. He didn't want her to go to the meeting, because the hidden forest zone is very difficult to reach. And just after she managed to meet her son, today she says goodbye to him again — this time forever. I embrace you, Roma! I am proud to have been by your side," — this is how another former political prisoner, Dzmitry Siemchanka, responded to the death of Raman Ramanau. He also wrote a short poem:
Come on, Brother! We'll see each other in heaven.
Where else? We've been in hell.
But for now, in this gray earth,
With tears, we'll water the roots of your dreams.
Raman Ramanau was detained on December 27, 2023.
He was charged under Article 368 (insulting Lukashenka) and 369 (insulting a government official) and a year later, on December 28, 2024, sentenced to two years in a penal colony.
He was held in penal colony No. 22 ("Wolf's Lairs" in Ivacevičy district).
He was released in August 2025.
