Academy of Sciences Begins Developing a Belarusian Breed from Danish Red Cows
Belarusian scientists have completed the first stage of creating their own highly productive red dairy cattle breed. The project is being implemented by the National Academy of Sciences and aims to develop a new breed adapted to local conditions, reports CTV channel.

In the first stage, Belarusian specialists focused on adapting Danish Red cows, studying their productivity and keeping conditions.
Research is being conducted on various farms, including the experimental base "Vustse" in the Orsha district. According to observations, the animals have adapted well to the Belarusian climate, yield high milk outputs, and demonstrate resistance to external factors.
As noted by Vladimir Karanik, head of the NASB (National Academy of Sciences of Belarus), this stage also involved determining the genetic potential of the breed and optimal keeping technologies to ensure both animal health and high productivity.
The project is now moving into the next phase. It is planned to identify genetic markers responsible for productivity and viability, and then use them to create a new breed by crossbreeding with Belarusian and other breeds, including Holstein.
The project's goal is to obtain a domestic red breed by 2030, which will serve as an alternative to existing ones. It is expected that the milk from such cows will have an increased content of fat, protein, and vitamins, which is particularly important for the production of cheeses and other products with high added value.
