In self-proclaimed South Ossetia, rescuers found the body of 52-year-old Russian citizen Hanna Tyts (Zakharan). On May 21, she fell into a mountain river. Only three days later, her body was discovered 35 kilometers from the accident site.
Hanna Tyts arrived in the region as part of a film crew. There she presented her documentary film about local residents — participants in the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
The tragedy occurred on the night of May 21. Hanna Tyts and a colleague were on a suspension bridge. The man, as a joke, vigorously swayed the structure — both fell into the water. The man was rescued, but the woman was carried away by the swift mountain current.
More than 200 people participated in the search operation; UAVs were used. Only three days later was the body recovered.
Hanna passed away very soon after her husband.
She was married to a Pole, Jerzy Tyts — that husband died last year, fighting on the side of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
Jerzy Tyts was a Polish pro-Russian activist and former serviceman. He was the founder of the "Kursk" society, which was engaged in the preservation and restoration of Soviet monuments and military cemeteries in Poland.
Starting from 2016, Tyts regularly traveled to Moscow; Maria Zakharova, official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, personally met with him. He regularly appeared in propagandistic Russian media.
TV journalist Zakharan met her future husband in 2016 when she approached Tyts for help in finding the grave of her grandfather, who went missing after battles in Poland during World War II. After this, a close relationship developed between them.
In 2018, Hanna, who at that time was already Tyts's wife, was detained by Poland's Internal Security Agency on charges of threatening the country's security and "organizing espionage activities." She was deported.
Tyts followed his wife and moved to Russia. There he joined the Russian Historical Society, accused Polish authorities of "attempts to falsify history," and cooperated with propaganda.
In 2025, he joined the Russian army as a volunteer to fight against Ukraine.
He fought for a very short time.
According to one Russian Telegram channel, Tyts disappeared in eastern Ukraine in June 2025, and his remains were found in September.
