"Marjane Satrapi died of sorrow a little over a year after the death of Mathias Ripa, her husband and the love of her life," her loved ones said in a statement.

In 2000, Satrapi released the graphic novel "Persepolis," in which she told about her childhood in Iran during the Islamic Revolution and her life in exile. The book received worldwide acclaim. In particular, The New York Times included it in its list of the 100 best books of the 21st century.

The novel is also available in Belarusian translation, published by "Pfljaumbaum".

Based on the book, Satrapi created an animated film, which received the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007.

The roles were voiced by Chiara Mastroianni, Catherine Deneuve, Gena Rowlands. The film received the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Festival, a César Award in two categories, and was nominated for a BAFTA Award and an "Oscar" for Best Animated Feature Film. The film faced persecution from religious fundamentalists in Lebanon and Syria.
