American actor RJ Mitte, best known for his role as Walter White's son in the dramatic TV series "Breaking Bad," has died at the age of 34, writes the BBC.
"It is with deep sadness that we announce the tragic death of beloved actor, philanthropist and active advocate for the rights of people with disabilities, RJ Mitte," his agent told the BBC.
The actor died in Brownsville, Texas, USA. The cause of death has not been reported.
Mitte, who had cerebral palsy, used his own life experience while working on his role in the Emmy-winning series.
Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul starred alongside him in the project.
In 2014, he received a Screen Actors Guild Award for his work on this project.
"Mitte brought authenticity to his role and used his fame to draw attention to the issues of people with disabilities and inclusion," his representative Sean Reilly told the BBC.
Mitte was also an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's organizations.
In addition, he founded The Mitte Foundation to support charitable activities and community initiatives, "to combat stereotypes and promote broader representation of the interests of people with disabilities," Reilly noted.
The series "Breaking Bad" aired in the US for five seasons — from 2008 to 2013. The drama, considered one of the best American TV series of the 21st century, received 58 Emmy nominations and won 16 awards.
RJ Mitte was born and raised in Louisiana. He was still a teenager when he auditioned for the iconic role of Walter White Jr. — a character who also had cerebral palsy.
Mitte moved to Los Angeles in 2005 to support his younger sister's acting career. He recounted that his first auditions were for a California state public service announcement aimed at combating methamphetamine use.
"And now we come to the 'Breaking Bad' audition — a series which, in my opinion, is also an anti-drug project in a way, because this story doesn't end well for any of the characters," he said earlier this month on popular blogger Joe Volpis' podcast.
