It all happened in late November last year. The woman said she was going to divorce, which enraged her 66-year-old husband, reports the General Prosecutor's Office.
The man was under the influence of alcohol. He doused her with gasoline and set her on fire with a lighter.
The woman ran out of the yard, trying to remove her clothes and put out her hair. The man pushed her in the back, causing her to fall. The man did not stop there: he again doused his wife with gasoline, which intensified the burning.
Then he snatched a bag from her hands, took out her passport, and set it on fire too.
The incident was witnessed by bystanders, who helped extinguish the fire and provided first aid. The 63-year-old woman sustained burns to 16% of her body, 2% of which were deep. The injuries were classified as less severe.
The man is in custody, and the case has been referred to court.
