US Defense Secretary Hegseth: War with Iran has already cost Washington $37.5 billion

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the war with Iran has so far cost the United States approximately $37.5 billion — almost $8 billion more than the latest estimates published in May, writes the BBC.
Speaking for the first time since the resumption of military actions between the US and Iran before the Senate Appropriations Committee, Pete Hegseth stated that military readiness would have to be cut if lawmakers did not approve an urgent increase in funding.
He reported that he is asking Congress to allocate $87 billion to his department, of which $67 billion is earmarked for operations in the Middle East.
The meeting was interrupted several times due to the shouts of protesters. Some of them chanted: "Stop bombing our children in Iran and Palestine!"
Hegseth's appearance before the committee came at a pivotal moment in the war — after three American servicemen were killed in the Middle East.
In April, the White House appealed to Congress to allocate $1.5 trillion to the Pentagon for the next fiscal year, which would increase US military spending to a record level in modern history.
On Monday, the US struck for the tenth consecutive day, while Iran responded with its own strikes against the US and its allies in the Middle East.
