A criminal case has been sent to court against a 40-year-old resident of Minsk, who is accused of embezzlement of property on a large scale, writes the "Minsk-Novosti" agency.
The man managed his own car service station. A Minsk resident approached him with a request to repair a 2013 Mazda CX-9, which belonged to his father-in-law, after a serious accident. At that time, the car owner was working abroad and could not personally deal with the repairs.
The car was delivered to the car service center by tow truck, and the director received the keys and documents. However, the repair was delayed because the necessary spare parts were expensive and difficult to find. At one point, the owner even considered selling the car without repair, but later changed his mind and re-registered it to his son-in-law. The head of the car service center was unaware of this.
Soon, the former owner of the car received a call from a resident of Brest who asked when she planned to formalize the transfer of ownership of the car. This raised suspicions, and the family found out that the director of the car service center had sold the car without permission for 7,000 dollars, and used the proceeds for personal needs.
He told the buyer that he was acting with the owner's permission and that all documents would be formalized later. He even wrote a corresponding receipt. But after the deal, the buyer noticed that the car had transit plates and was already registered to another person. He found the former owner's contacts and got in touch with her.
After the discovery, the director of the car service center promised to return the money but did not keep his word. As a result, the victim reported the incident to the police. The amount of damage caused was estimated at 22,820 rubles.
The accused fully admitted his guilt and repented. The car was returned to its rightful owner, and the money paid for it was returned to the buyer.
Now, the man is accused under Part 3 of Article 211 of the Criminal Code of Belarus — embezzlement of entrusted property on a large scale. During the investigation, a restrictive measure in the form of personal recognizance was chosen for him.
