Putin banned taking more than one million rubles in cash out of Russia
Vladimir Putin has tightened restrictions on taking cash rubles out of Russia.
According to the new presidential decree, citizens are prohibited from taking out more than 1 million Russian rubles [currently 12 thousand dollars — NN] to the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) — Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan — as well as to Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
For legal entities and individual entrepreneurs, the ban applies regardless of the amount.
In case of violation of the ban, the amount exceeding 1 million rubles will be confiscated from an individual, and all exported cash from a legal entity or individual entrepreneur.
An exception is provided if a citizen exports money through international airports designated by the government and can confirm the withdrawal of the entire amount from accounts with bank statements. Separate exceptions are made for legal entities engaged in international transportation and ensuring the operation of Russian diplomatic and consular institutions.
