Friends announced the death of the well-known Belarusian sculptor Siarhei Lohvin on social media. He was 67 years old.
Siarhei Lohvin was born on May 28, 1959, in Minsk. From 1974–1978, he studied at the Minsk Art College, and from 1981–1987, at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts (formerly Belarusian State Institute of Theatre and Arts).
Among his teachers were Anatol Artsimovich, Henadz Muramtsev, and Andrei Anikeichyk. The sculptor's diploma work was a monumental piece dedicated to prisoners of war shot during the Great Patriotic War.
After graduating from the institute, Lohvin worked as a lecturer in the departments of drawing, painting, and sculpture. He also headed the sculpture section of the Belarusian Union of Artists. He participated in art exhibitions since 1985.
Lohvin worked in the genres of monumental, easel, and memorial sculpture. The main materials he used were granite and bronze. Among his well-known works are the monument to underground resistance fighters, the decorative doors of the Red Church in Minsk, the compositions "Europe," "Eve," "Portrait of a Friend," "Song," "Adam and Eve," "The Last Judgment," as well as the relief "Fern Flower" for the National Library of Belarus.
The sculptor also created monuments on mass graves in Hantsavichy and Aranchytsy of Pruzhany district. In Slonim, Lohvin, together with Ivan Misko and Uladzimir Pipin, worked on a monument to the Great Hetman of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Lew Sapieha.
Siarhei Lohvin was a laureate of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus award.
