A quarantine has been introduced in the Petrykaŭ district of the Homieĺ region due to an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF). The disease focus was detected on a private farmstead in the village of Turok, writes Euroradio, citing documents received from Belpol.

The territory of the owner's private subsidiary farm has been designated as the epizootic focus. The villages of Ilyich and Vyshalau in the Petrykaŭ district are designated as the threatened zone with a radius of 3 kilometers, and the entire district is designated as the surveillance zone.
This is stated in the justification report for the district executive committee's decision, prepared by the chief veterinary doctor of the district, Mikhail Mazurkevich.
During the quarantine period in the disease focus, the following are prohibited: entry and access for unauthorized persons and transport, export of live pigs and slaughter products, export of pig farming raw materials and feed, regrouping of animals, as well as the procurement and sale of pork and other livestock products.
In the threatened zone and surveillance zone, the following have been introduced: a ban on trading pigs and their slaughter products in markets, a ban on holding fairs and exhibitions involving animals, as well as mandatory registration of all pig livestock in private households.
Previously, according to the minutes of the commission meeting, a decision was made to cull all pigs on the farmstead in Turok, where the disease was detected.
The veterinary service was also instructed to inspect all private farmsteads in the settlement and conduct explanatory work with residents on the prevention of African swine fever.
Additionally, a decision was made to cull stray animals in the village.
The State Institution "Petrykaŭ District Veterinary Station" was instructed to inform the population through local media and notify other districts of the Homieĺ region about the threat of disease spread.
African swine fever is classified as a particularly dangerous animal disease, for which there is no treatment or vaccine for domestic pigs, and infected livestock are subject to culling.
