"Can you imagine marshals of the Soviet Union hugging each other, kissing?"

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev criticized men who hug upon meeting.
"Observing the behavior of young people, as well as people of respectable age, I came to the conclusion that we still need to remember our inherited traditions.
It is not right when men start hugging each other, kissing, women kiss men, men kiss women. This was never in our customs. Especially people in military uniform. Generals start hugging each other. What is this?
Can you imagine marshals of the Soviet Union, marshals victorious in the World War, in the Great Patriotic War, hugging each other, kissing each other? Men should shake hands with each other, press it firmly, not offer a hand like a warm cutlet or a twig, and greet with a smile, but no more than that. This has always been the case. After all, one can put their right hand to their heart if they are glad to see this person,” Tokayev told journalists after voting in the parliamentary elections in Astana.
He added that he initiated a new code of conduct.
