Mstsislaw residents promised "absolute safety" — discussions on radioactive waste storage held in the district
Public discussions on the project for a radioactive waste disposal facility were held in Mstsislaw. Mstsislaw district is one of three sites where authorities are considering the possibility of transporting hazardous waste, along with Astravets and Khoiniki districts.
Mikhail Kisel, director of the Belarusian Organization for Radioactive Waste Management (BelRAO), and Andrey Rykov, a representative of "BelNIPIenergoprom", addressed the local residents, writes mstlife.
The capital's guests assured locals of a "multi-barrier protection" that completely prevents radiation from entering the soil and groundwater, and convinced them of safety guarantees for future generations.
Local residents, according to the publication, were reassured by standards and "international experience of European countries".
In addition to environmental and radiation control issues, people were promised benefits in the form of new jobs and infrastructure development.
"Representatives of BelRAO and the design organization provided comprehensive answers to all questions," the publication assures.
The final decision on the selection of the site will be made by a special State Commission.
