Tusk: Russia is preparing for escalation in the region. This winter will be decisive
The Polish Prime Minister also expressed the opinion that the Russian-Ukrainian war is at a turning point.

The Prime Minister of Poland stated that Russia is preparing for escalation in the war with Ukraine and in the region as a whole. In his opinion, the upcoming winter will be decisive for the Russian Federation, writes Reform.news.
On Friday, the head of the Polish government spoke at the Campus Polska Przyszłości youth event in Olsztyn, where he was asked about the recent visit of CIA Director John Ratcliffe to Moscow. According to one media version, he flew to warn Russia against aggression against a NATO country.
Tusk replied that the Polish side had been notified of the visit.
“I cannot go into details, but we are in constant contact with the CIA leadership, so we are not surprised by any information about the activities and initiatives of the CIA head. We were also warned about the need for urgent negotiations at the highest Polish-American level on this issue,” he said.
The Prime Minister recalled that earlier, in an interview with one of the Western media, he had already warned about a real threat of provocation from Russia or even a limited attack on one of the NATO countries.
“I perfectly understood what I was saying. Today, no one has any doubts, because this is related not only to the CIA chief's visit to Moscow, but also to the fact that these signals have been known to the public for many weeks. It is clear that Russia is seriously preparing for an escalation of tensions both in the war with Ukraine and throughout the region, and that this autumn and winter will be decisive for Russia,” he said.
He also noted that, according to various services, Russia intends to mobilize 600,000 people, and this mobilization will not be for peacekeeping operations.
“Therefore, we must be ready for various unforeseen circumstances, and the next seven or eight months will undoubtedly be decisive,” he said.
Tusk expressed the opinion that the Russian-Ukrainian war is at a turning point.
According to him, one day it seems that Ukraine is gaining a strategic advantage, but a couple of days later it turns out that its defeat is also very real. He emphasized that close cooperation between Europe and the US is of great importance, and Poland, which has good relations with the United States, can play a key role here.
The Prime Minister assured that he would do everything to ensure that NATO exists not only on paper.
“I strongly support the preservation of this principle as the most important principle of NATO: one for all, all for one. If Russia decides to attack, I don't know, Estonia, we, especially Poles, would be completely shortsighted if we said that we would not react just in case. We must be at the forefront of those who mobilize NATO for immediate and decisive retaliatory measures, otherwise we will be next in line,” he said.
“Russia is a potential aggressor against NATO countries, and on this issue, we must be absolutely united,” Tusk emphasized.
