"Wow, the populist party in Germany had a really successful night."

US President Donald Trump congratulated the far-right party "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) on its victory in the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament elections, held on September 6, and suggested that the party is "on the rise," writes DW.
"Wow, the populist party in Germany had a really successful night," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday, September 9.
The American president did not name the AfD directly, but it is clear from his message that he was referring to it. Trump suggested that the AfD and its supporters are tired of "absolutely horrific immigration rules." "They are on the rise and will no longer tolerate it," the US President wrote.
At the end of the post, Trump used the abbreviation "MGGA!!!", which presumably stands for "Make Germany Great Again." This is a reference to his slogan "Make America Great Again" and the abbreviation MAGA.
On election night, Trump published a screenshot of the preliminary results of the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament elections on Truth Social. The graph showed the AfD's lead, but Trump did not accompany the post with a comment.
