Lithuanian Government Approved Ban for Belarusians on Acquiring Housing Near Strategic Sites
The Lithuanian government on September 30 approved a bill prohibiting citizens of Russia and Belarus from acquiring real estate in areas located near the country's strategic facilities. The restriction will apply even to those Russians and Belarusians who have a residence permit in Lithuania, writes LRT.

For citizens of Belarus without a residence permit, the ban on real estate purchase will also apply. For Russians, a similar restriction was already provided for by an earlier bill.
The ban will not apply to cases where property is acquired by inheritance.
If the Seimas approves the proposed amendments, they should come into force on January 1 of next year.
Similar restrictions have already been introduced by Latvia and Finland, but exceptions are provided there for citizens of Belarus and Russia who have a residence permit in the respective countries. Estonia also plans to introduce a similar ban.
