NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that there is currently no direct threat to the alliance's territory from Russia. Mark Rutte's words came after Russia sent NATO a diplomatic note warning of the possible use of nuclear weapons if an attempt is made to isolate the Kaliningrad region from the rest of the country's territory. Moscow also stated that in the event of an armed conflict, it could strike "decision-making centers" in the alliance's member countries.
According to Rutte, NATO responded calmly to the Russian note. He emphasized that the alliance is defensive in nature and called on Russia to cease nuclear threats.
The NATO Secretary General also noted that if Russia decides to launch military action against Finland, the Baltic states, Poland, or another alliance member, this would be preceded by a buildup of Russian military forces. According to him, the US will maintain its involvement in Europe's defense with both conventional and nuclear means.
Rutte stated that NATO will continue to support Ukraine while simultaneously investing in strengthening its own defense. He urged alliance countries not to succumb to threats from Moscow and to remain calm.
According to the alliance's Secretary General, Russia is facing difficulties on the front and is trying to divide NATO countries to achieve a cessation of support for Ukraine. He also said that Vladimir Putin has not yet shown readiness for negotiations on ending the war.
