A four-year-old girl was seated separately from her mother on a Belavia flight
A Belarusian woman did not pay in advance for seat selection, as her child was previously automatically seated next to one of the parents. The story sparked a debate on Threads.

During check-in for a Belavia flight, a woman and her four-year-old daughter were given seats on opposite sides of the aisle, writes BGmedia.
The passenger said that she had flown with her child many times before and they were always seated together. Therefore, this time she did not pay in advance for seat selection.
According to the woman, passengers who checked in later were able to be seated together.
In the comments, opinions were divided. Some believed that a four-year-old child should sit next to an adult without additional payment. Others noted that the passenger could have paid for seat selection in advance: "Why, if you wanted to sit together, didn't you pay for this service in advance? It's logical."
The Belavia website states that the possibility of choosing a seat for free depends on the fare. The publicly available airline rules do not contain a separate guarantee that a child older than two years will in any case be seated directly next to a parent.
Meanwhile, new rules have been agreed upon in the European Union, according to which a child under 14 years old and the accompanying adult must be seated together without additional payment. However, this norm is not yet universally in effect.
