Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russian drones struck a civilian vessel transporting corn. According to him, the vessel belonged to Turkey and was in the neutral waters of the Black Sea, and citizens of Azerbaijan and India were on board, writes "European Pravda".

Zelenskyy reported that two Russian drones struck the vessel. According to preliminary information, the captain died, and the fate of another person is being determined. Eleven crew members were rescued, one of whom sustained injuries.
The Ukrainian president stated that Ukraine has repeatedly proposed concrete measures for de-escalation and ensuring the safety of navigation in the Black Sea. According to him, similar proposals have also come from other countries. He accused Russia of continuing to attack civilian vessels instead of allowing normal shipping, and called for international pressure to restore global food security.
However, earlier Romanian authorities reported two fatalities as a result of this attack, so the information regarding the number of victims remained conflicting at the time of publication.
Against the backdrop of the attack, international efforts to restore a safe trade route in the Black Sea are ongoing. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas called for facilitating the restoration of this route. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that Ankara is strengthening diplomatic efforts to restore grain exports via the Black Sea and has received a positive signal from Ukraine.
It was also previously reported that Turkey and the UN are planning new talks between Russia and Ukraine regarding a truce in the Black Sea. The goal of these efforts is to combine various initiatives to protect grain supplies amid a significant rise in global food prices.
