American business jet set speed record for aircraft — over 1000 km/h
The experimental version of the American business jet Gulfstream G400 set a speed record on the route between Miami and Las Vegas. The aircraft covered the distance between the cities in 4 hours and 8 minutes, achieving an average speed of 0.89 Mach, or about 1090 km/h.

Additionally, Gulfstream announced the first flight of the G400 with a fully equipped cabin. Company President Mark Burns noted that this flight and the new speed record attest to the systemic work, experience, and dynamic development of the project.
The experimental G400 and a mockup of its cabin were displayed at the recent NBAA-BACE airshow. It was during the flight to the exhibition site that the aircraft set the record. At the event, it was showcased alongside the long-range business jets Gulfstream G700 and G800.
The company introduced the G400 model in 2021. The manufacturer positions it as the first new aircraft in this class with a spacious cabin in over a decade.
The G400 is not intended to replace any existing Gulfstream models. It will occupy an intermediate position between the G280, which is to be replaced by the G300, and the larger business jets G500 and G600.
The announced list price for the Gulfstream G400 is approximately 34.5 million dollars.
At a standard cruising speed for long-range flights — 0.85 Mach — the aircraft will be able to cover up to 4200 nautical miles, or approximately 7778 km, without refueling. This will allow for nonstop flights, for example, from New York to Geneva or from Miami to São Paulo.
If the cruising speed is increased to 0.88 Mach, the flight range will decrease to 3950 nautical miles, or approximately 7315 km. The maximum speed of the G400 will be 0.90 Mach.
The manufacturer has provided several cabin layout options — for 9, 11, or 12 passengers. If necessary, sleeping berths for five people can be equipped. Among the aircraft's features are an air purification system and ten large oval windows that provide a panoramic view.
The combination of flight range, speed, and a spacious cabin should make the G400 suitable for long-haul business trips without intermediate stops.
Meanwhile, the American company SyberJet recently unveiled a full-scale mockup of its light private jet, the SJ36. Its stated flight range reaches 3000 nautical miles, or 5556 km, and its maximum altitude is 49,000 feet, which corresponds to approximately 14,935 meters. According to the manufacturer, these characteristics allow the SJ36 to compete with mid-class aircraft while maintaining the operational efficiency characteristic of light business jets.
