Ideologues make a mountain out of a molehill so that people will later fear that mountain, writes Mikola Buhai.

In Threads and TikToks, there are many critical reviews from ordinary people regarding the ban on Halloween. "Is it normal that pumpkins are being banned?" is a typical cautious take.
Authorities often change their position when they sense public dissatisfaction, but this does not apply to political issues. On the matter of the pumpkin holiday, the fanatical are uncompromising.
"Western political strategists use Halloween as a tool to decompose our society. Under the guise of innocent fun, foreign values are promoted," — such publications have been imposed on all state media.
Nonsense. In Anglo-Saxon countries, Halloween is traditionally celebrated: in the USA, even the president meets with children in carnival costumes and gives them sweets. In other countries, everything is limited to parties or pumpkins. No one there "promotes" anything; everyone does what they want.
Halloween is nothing more than a way to have fun during gloomy autumn days. This does not prevent, including our neighbors, from simultaneously celebrating All Saints' Day. In Poland and Lithuania, November 1st is an official holiday so that people have time to visit cemeteries and remember their ancestors. In neighboring countries, all cemeteries bloom with candle flames. If only we cherished the memory of our own! In Belarus, on the contrary, Dzyady (Ancestors' Day) ceased to be a holiday under Lukashenka, although he did retain the holiday for the October Revolution in Russia.
One can argue whether we need that Halloween. In our tradition, young people in scary masks collected sweets at Christmas. But if children want both Halloween and Christmas — well, bless them, it would seem.
There is so much fuss against Halloween for this reason. State propaganda promotes the idea — absurd, but it seems relevant to them — that Satanism is flourishing in the West. Russian and Lukashenka's channels write that Satanists are fighting in Ukraine, secret Satanists rule France, that globalists are Satanists.
Inciting hatred against "others," inciting hostility towards the peoples of Europe and North America, all these fabrications about Satanism, as well as about LGBT, globalists — this is the basis of Lukashenka's ideology. They make a mountain out of a molehill so that people will later fear that mountain.
In the fear of all things Western, all that is associated with democratic countries of the West, the ideologues see a guarantee of the unlimited and eternal existence of their system.
In Soviet times, they fought against jeans, jazz, rock music, long hair. In North Korea, this has been taken to an absurd extreme. And we are already close to that same absurdity: North Korea is set as an example for us, and an innocent children's holiday has become a victim of an ideological campaign.
