Does Dzianis Kuchynski's watch really cost $430,000? Investigators were off by ten thousand times
Photos of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's advisor on international affairs, Dzianis Kuchynski, wearing a watch, were sent to the editorial offices of several independent media outlets. It is claimed that it is a Cartier worth $430,000.

The clothing and accessories of both Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya herself and her entourage have repeatedly been the subject of discussion. Earlier, Nasha Niva wrote about Dzianis Kuchynski's collection of unusual ties, as well as Franak Viačorka's watch. Now, Kuchynski's watch has attracted attention.
In a photo from one of the meetings, the democratic leader's advisor on international affairs is sitting at a table in a light suit. A watch of an unusual shape with a golden case, a white dial, and a black strap is visible on his wrist.
In a letter sent to the editorial offices of several independent media outlets, it was claimed that this was a Cartier Crash — a watch costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. To be convincing, a screenshot from the luxury watch sales website Chrono24, where a similar model is listed for $429,995, was added to Kuchynski's photo.

The Cartier Crash is one of the most unusual models from the French jewelry house Cartier. It was first created in London in 1967. The watch's distinctive features are its asymmetrical, seemingly melted case and curved Roman numerals on the dial. This design is often compared to Salvador Dalí's famous melting clocks in his painting "The Persistence of Memory."
The Cartier Crash was released in small batches and over time became a collectible rarity. The announcement on Chrono24 also indicates how highly valued such watches are: for almost $430,000, they offer not a new, but a used item. Moreover, even without the original box and documents, which, as the seller notes, have not been preserved.

"Nasha Niva" contacted Kuchynski to find out if he really wears such an expensive watch and asked him to show it up close.
It turned out that there is indeed a resemblance, but it refers to two completely different watches. The one Dzianis Kuchynski wears is much simpler and completely inexpensive.
Outwardly, it indeed resembles an expensive Cartier, however, upon closer inspection, several differences can be noticed.

The original Cartier Crash has an 18-carat rose gold case with a distinct golden bezel around the dial. Kuchynski's watch has a completely golden case. The hands also differ: in Cartier, they are blue, and in the budget analog, they are black. In addition, Kuchynski's watch dial does not have the signature Cartier inscription, and the winding crown has a different shape.
A similar watch can be bought on Vinted under the name Dali Gold Vintage Unisex Watch for 41.51 euros, or about 46 dollars. Including platform fees, its cost is 44.29 euros.

Kuchynski himself told "Nasha Niva" that he bought the watch even cheaper: "I think I even got it for 35 on Vinted."
Thus, the watch, which in the distributed letter was presented as a Cartier worth almost $430,000, actually costs ten thousand times less.
This is another example of how an ordinary photo is used to spread false information. Nowadays, disinformation networks launch various fakes and form misleading narratives daily. Therefore, one should be critical of sensational claims and verify information through reliable sources.
