In the north of Japan's Hokkaido island, a train collided with a bear and derailed. The railway company JR Hokkaido reported the incident.

The accident occurred on October 30 on the section between Otainepu and Wakkanai stations. After the incident, train traffic on this section was suspended.
Since the collision happened at night, railway workers initially could not inspect the accident site. Around 6:30 AM on October 31, after dawn, hunters joined the inspection. They found a bear trapped under the train. It was also discovered that the first wheel of the leading carriage had derailed and turned to the right in the direction of travel.
As a result of the incident, none of the passengers or train crew members were injured. 32 people reached their destination by taxi.
