The world's largest crypto exchange Binance hacked. Damage could amount to $6 billion
The hack could become the largest in history.

On the night of October 30, unknown individuals hacked the largest exchange Binance and transferred billions of dollars in cryptocurrency to themselves. According to the platform's own information, losses could exceed $6 billion. If these estimates are confirmed, the hack will become the largest in history, RBC reports.
According to preliminary investigation data, the attackers compromised the personal laptop of one of the DevOps engineers. This allowed hackers to gain access to a service container and initiate unauthorized transactions to withdraw funds. At the same time, the company did not detect signs of private keys (private keys) from cryptocurrency wallets being leaked.
DevOps is a popular methodology designed to optimize workflows and increase company productivity. It is based on close interaction between developers, testers, and other IT specialists in a team.

"We have not found any evidence of a leak of private keys from crypto wallets," the company stated.
Binance promised to publish a detailed technical report after the investigation is completed and all circumstances of the incident are verified. The company estimated the scale of the consequences at approximately $6.3 billion. Together with partners from the blockchain industry, Binance managed to freeze about $3 billion of affected assets directly on the blockchain.
The crypto exchange stated that it would compensate for all losses using the SAFU fund (Secure Asset Fund for Users).
"Users' funds are safe," the company emphasized. After eliminating the consequences of the incident, the exchange also intends to publish an updated report on reserves.
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao confirmed the exchange hack and stated that users' funds are safe.
According to him, Tether and Circle promptly froze assets totaling approximately $971 million and $823 million, respectively.
SpaceX head Elon Musk reacted to the news of the largest crypto exchange Binance hack with a phrase about software vulnerability.
"Every day is zero day," the businessman wrote on the social network X.
