An Expanded English Edition of Ales Bialiatski's Book Has Been Released
An English edition of the book by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ales Bialiatski has been released. It significantly expands on the book published in 2022: new chapters include the author's reflections on his arrest in 2021, the trial in 2023, over four years behind bars, and his release in December 2025.

The additions, created with Bialiatski's direct participation, are a personal testimony about life in a correctional colony and attempts to preserve human dignity under conditions of total state control. The author also recounts receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022 while he was behind bars.
Bialiatski's personal story unfolds against the backdrop of Belarus's recent history – a country where thousands of people have been persecuted for their pursuit of a free society. The book offers readers a rare, personal insight into Belarusian resistance and decades of dissident activity through the eyes of a person who helped build this movement and paid a high price for it.
To render Belarusian names, the book uses Belarusian Latin script (Łacinka). This helps preserve their Belarusian form and introduces English-speaking readers to the Belarusian language and cultural identity.
The book can make a good gift for foreign friends and partners: it will help them better understand Belarus and the events not only of the last six years but also the broader context of the last fifty years.
The book can be purchased on Allegro with delivery throughout Europe.
