Russia has lost its fourth newest Su-57 fighter jet since the beginning of 2026. The aircraft burned down on October 29 at the Akhtubinsk military airfield in the Astrakhan region. This was reported by the Ukrainian OSINT project "Absolutely Reliable Source", citing satellite imagery, writes The Moscow Times.

According to their data, the fire occurred during engine startup as a result of an emergency situation. The project noted that, considering the production of no more than four such aircraft per year, Russia has already lost a number of Su-57s comparable to their annual production volume.

Two more Su-57s were damaged in spring at the Shagol airfield in the Chelyabinsk region. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The third fighter jet crashed on July 23 in the Zvenigorod area near Moscow. The Russian Ministry of Defense then stated that an aviation training and combat aircraft was affected, and cited a technical malfunction as the cause.
According to information from one of the Russian Z-Telegram channels, after takeoff, the aircraft's left engine failed first, followed by the right engine. Blogger Vladimir Romanov put forward another version: the fighter jet could have been shot down by a Russian air defense crew from the "BARS-Moscow" formation. A similar version was also expressed by the Ukrainian project InformNapalm, claiming that they managed to influence the operation of one of the Russian air defense units and use its system against a Russian aircraft.

The Su-57 is Russia's newest fifth-generation multi-role fighter jet, which entered service with the Russian Aerospace Forces at the end of 2020. By 2024, 22 such machines had been produced.
Vadim Badeha, CEO of the United Aircraft Corporation "Rostec", stated that the Su-57 is the only fifth-generation aircraft participating in real combat operations, referring to the war in Ukraine. Vladimir Putin called this fighter the most effective in the world.
The Su-57 is capable of reaching speeds of up to 2600 kilometers per hour and carrying up to 7.4 tons of combat payload, including air-to-air, air-to-ground, and anti-ship missiles. According to the American publication National Interest, one of the key features of the aircraft is its ability to interact with drones and launch hypersonic weapons.
The cost of one Su-57 is estimated at 35-40 million dollars, or approximately 2.8-3.2 billion Russian rubles. One hour of its flight, according to estimates provided in the article, costs about 25 thousand dollars.
