Denmark for the first time named the USA a potential security threat
One of Denmark's key intelligence services, the Danish Defence Intelligence Service (DDIS), for the first time described the United States as a potential security risk in its annual threat assessment for 2025. This indicates a shift in Denmark's view of its close ally amid geopolitical disagreements surrounding Greenland.

The DDIS report notes that the US increasingly prioritizes its own interests and "uses its economic and technological power as a tool of authority, including in relation to allies and partners."
DDIS also highlighted the growing US interest in Greenland – a territory belonging to Denmark – as a result of intensifying great power rivalry in the Arctic. This follows repeated proposals by Donald Trump to take control of the territory, which caused diplomatic tension.
"The United States uses economic power, including threats of high tariffs, to impose its will, and no longer rules out the use of military force, even against allies," the report states.
Russia and China are still considered by DDIS as the main risks.
Intelligence warns that uncertainty regarding the US role as a guarantor of European security will increase Russia's readiness to intensify hybrid attacks against NATO.
"The Baltic Sea region is the area where there is the greatest risk that Russia will use military force against NATO," DDIS notes.
