Fiaduta spent the last month and a half in the medical unit and was preparing for an operation
Political scientist and literary critic Aliaksandr Fiaduta said at the first press conference after his release that he had recently been in the medical unit.

«I spent the last month and a half in the inpatient department of the colony's medical unit, where I was serving my sentence. Since my health began to deteriorate, it was decided to prepare me for surgery. The operation, scheduled for a few days before my release, was set for February 24.
So I was sleeping peacefully. At half past four in the morning, the deputy head of the colony woke me up and asked me to get dressed and come with him. In a room called "etapka" â meaning, through which movement occurred after inspection â he asked me if I understood what was happening. I realized that, most likely, the release process had begun, and I asked where my belongings were and if I could go to my unit and collect them. He said: "Your belongings are already on the bus."
Once I arrived here, I understood why I was not allowed to inspect them. My manuscripts were confiscated. There were no political notes, and no diaries either. There was no information concerning my imprisonment. There were a film script, two plays, and two notebooks of poems written there.»
Fiaduta realized they were being taken to Ukraine, by the sun's position.
«I had already gotten used to being brought to Belarus from Moscow with a bag over my head, and from Belarus to Ukraine, they transported me with a prison cap pulled tightly over my head. Therefore... Well, only by the sun did I realize that, most likely, they were taking me south. South â was Ukraine.»
