Babaryka doesn't know for sure how he got injuries in the penal colony, as he was unconscious

As is known, in 2023, Viktar Babaryka was hospitalized with fluid in his lungs. At the time, it was said that he had been beaten. During a press conference of political prisoners brought to Ukraine, Viktar Babaryka was asked to recount what actually happened then. He was also asked to comment on rumors of pressure on him.
"In 2023, within the framework, I would say, of the conditions of detention, I started to experience uncontrolled losses of consciousness. And during one of these losses of consciousness, I woke up, and as a result, I had a broken rib, a punctured lung, bilateral pneumonia, and, in my opinion, 23 skull lacerations," Babaryka recounted. —
To comment on this, I confirm — I wrote, and I say honestly: I don't know what caused it, because it happened after I lost consciousness. I cannot say "I hit myself" or "I was beaten," because in an unconscious state, I truly don't know what was happening to me. But the fact remains a fact."
Like Masha, I am very grateful to the medics of Navapolatsk because they really managed to bring me (I was already on oxygen in the evening) and perform an operation and pump fluid from my lung. And, in fact, then I was transferred to a republican hospital, where professional and very good assistance was also provided.
Therefore, this, conditionally speaking, moment of cause I do not know, but what followed, that is, the further assistance provided to me, was rendered professionally, at a sufficiently high level. And again, I can say that after this incident, I had no conditions under which loss of consciousness would occur."
