Aliaksandr Zdaravenny from Rechytsa Sentenced to 10 Years in Penal Colony and a Hefty Fine for 'Treason'
On December 15, the Hrodna Regional Court sentenced 46-year-old political prisoner and activist Aliaksandr (Ales) Zdaravenny from Rechytsa. He was found guilty under Article 356 (treason) and Article 361-4 of the Criminal Code (facilitating extremist activities). As a result, he was sentenced to ten years in a penal colony and a fine of 500 base units (21,000 rubles), Viasna reports .

In 2020-2021, Ales was twice brought to administrative responsibility for participating in protests and for a flag in the yard of his private home. After 2021, Ales traveled to Lithuania and Poland several times.
The activist was detained at the end of March at the border with Lithuania. Initially, 'extremism' was found on his phone, and he was sentenced to administrative arrest under Article 19.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. Later, Ales ended up in a pre-trial detention center on charges under a politically motivated criminal article.
A few days later, Ales's brother, Vadzim, was detained in Minsk. Initially, he was charged with 'insulting Lukashenka,' and he was given two years in prison.
Aliaksandr Zdaravenny is currently held in Homiel Pre-trial Detention Center No. 3.
