At the Matchday Football auction, a torn shirt of the legendary Argentine striker Diego Maradona was sold for a record sum — 179 thousand dollars. The initial price of the lot was 145 thousand dollars, but with commission, the final amount increased by another 34 thousand.

The shirt became the most expensive among Maradona's club jerseys sold at auction. The legendary footballer wore it in the 1984 Spanish Cup final for 'Barcelona' against 'Athletic' from Bilbao (0:1). After the match, a brawl erupted, during which Maradona's shirt was torn.
It was saved thanks to an employee of the Catalan club's laundry, who took the damaged uniform as a souvenir. She later gave the shirt to a friend, and then it passed down to her son.
The shirt was kept in the family for 30 years until the heir handed it over to the auction house.
