A head-on collision between two tourist trains occurred on the railway leading to the ancient city of Machu Picchu in Peru. As a result, at least one person died, and 36 were injured, Euronews reports.

The incident occurred in the morning approximately midway through the route. As a result, the 61-year-old driver of one of the trains died. Among the injured are both Peruvians and foreign tourists.

Medical assistance was provided at the scene, however, the evacuation of 1300 people was complicated due to the difficult terrain.
The causes of the tragedy are not yet known.
