An incredible story of kindness: In Ukraine, a train made an unscheduled stop to pick up a sick girl and her mother
It all started with a desperate appeal from a mother to "Ukrzaliznytsia" (Ukrainian Railways) on the social network Threads. Due to heavy snowfalls, the village was blocked, and the girl urgently needed to get to the "Ohmatdyt" hospital in the capital for examination.

"On 12.01.2026, I need to get on train 772O Khmelnytskyi — Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi with a sick child, we need to get to "Ohmatdyt" (short for "Protection of Motherhood and Childhood". — **NN**). We have tickets for tomorrow, 12.01.2026, for 11:00 AM, departure from Khmelnytskyi.
Unfortunately, we live in a village, and due to frosts and a blizzard, there is no one to take my daughter and me to the train. Is it possible for train 772O to make a stop at Korzhivtsi station in Khmelnytskyi district? My daughter is bedridden, 7 years old, the daughter of a missing serviceman, our tickets are in the first car, seats 5 and 7,"
Iryna Vlasenko addressed the Ukrainian Railways on January 11 at 5:49 PM.
Later on Threads, the woman explained that she lives in the village of Lozove near Korzhivtsi station. From there to Khmelnytskyi is 28 kilometers directly, bypassing is 40 kilometers. Due to snowfalls, the roads were covered: "In the village, the agricultural company has cleared from the railway crossing to the church and from the crossing to the hill, but in one place it's too high, and cars get stuck 'on their bellies,' and then a tractor has to pull them out."
The mother's state was close to panic:
"When I was told at 5:00 PM that they couldn't take us to the train, I wrote in the village group — and silence. I sat with a lump in my throat for 40 minutes."
According to the woman, she not only left messages on Threads but also called the Ukrainian Railways hotline.

At the beginning of nine in the evening, the woman received an SMS from Ukrainian Railways:
"We will stop the train in Korzhivtsi. But there may be delays." The woman was advised to track current information on the website.
Iryna also received a reply from the train's locomotive crew on Threads:
"Yes, we will make a stop at Korzhivtsi station for your boarding. Hold on, we are with you. We wish your child health."
"When they replied that they would stop the train, I burst into tears. I was looking for people not only from the village but also from the city who could come and give us a ride. Someone was found who was already ready to sacrifice their rest before their shift (by the way, also an 'Ukrzaliznytsia' employee), but a one-minute stop of the train is the best solution. I am endlessly grateful," Iryna wrote.
The next day, Iryna was informed that the train would be at the station at 11:21 AM.
"We did it in two minutes... Thank you very much, we are on the train. You are incredible. Locomotive crew, you are wonderful people. Strong health to you and peaceful skies. Friends on Threads, we are also very grateful to you. Especially Vikusya,"
the happy woman informed everyone who was worried about her.
To the question of whether anyone would meet them in Kyiv, Iryna replied:
"My godmother will pick us up and take us directly to 'Ohmatdyt,' because unfortunately, she has no light, water, heat, and she lives on the 15th floor. I sincerely hope that everything will soon return to normal, our unbreakable people."
Iryna's daughter suffered an injury seven months ago in kindergarten. After unsuccessful treatment at the Khmelnytskyi Regional Children's Hospital, osteomyelitis developed — an infectious-inflammatory disease affecting the bone marrow, bone tissue, and periosteum.

As Iryna explains, her daughter will have an MRI at the hospital, based on the results of which they will decide whether the special collar can be removed from her neck. And the little one herself dreams of "at least sitting or standing a little."
Regarding the girl's father, Iryna wrote:
"Dad is currently in the east. It so happened that my daughter has two fathers: one biological, who went missing seven months ago in the war, and the other by heart and soul — also a serviceman."
Threads users do not hide their admiration for both the mother and Ukrainian Railways:
"God, incredible! You're great for daring, for not being ashamed to ask for help for your daughter, for finding a way to solve the problem. You are strong. May your daughter recover as soon as possible. Unfortunately, in my circle there are people who only complain about how bad everything is in Ukraine, never look for opportunities to solve problems themselves, everyone owes them something constantly. Ukrzaliznytsia, you have once again proven your humanity, thank you."
"After such posts, I understand... This world can still be saved!!"
"God, how pleasant it is to read such news. May your child be healthy, and to Ukrzaliznytsia — a low bow."
"Ukrzaliznytsia, you are great, an incredible act, thank you from all Ukrainians. So little is needed for happiness — just a stop for a few minutes, and let the whole world wait! And you know, we all believed that everything would work out for Iryna and for you!!!!"
