Siarhei Sandaliuk is a former deputy head of the Department of Penal Enforcement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He held this position from 2013 to 2018. All Belarusian pre-trial detention centers, penal colonies, and prisons are under the jurisdiction of this department.
Together with his wife Anzhela, they were tried in August 2024 under the "people's" Article 342 (Part 1) of the Criminal Code – this article is usually used to prosecute participation in protests.
In November 2024, they were tried again – it is unclear whether this was a trial for a different march, or if the previous case was sent for retrial after an appeal.
Anzhela Sandaliuk's sentence, handed down in November 2024, has become known. According to information from Dissidentby, the woman was given two years of imprisonment. It's possible she has already served the entire term and been released (it is unknown how long the woman was held in pre-trial detention).
Her husband's sentence is unknown.
